MADD: Mothers Against Drunk Driving

MADD is a non-profit organization whose Mission is to stop drunk driving and support the victims of this violent crime. MADD also seeks to prevent underage drinking. This is achieved in the following ways:

1. Providing education and advocating the dangers of drunk driving.
2. Providing assistance to the victims. This includes family members and loved ones of both the innocent victims and the guilty impaired drivers.
3. Promoting a strict policy regarding illegal blood alcohol content.
4. Using strong sanctions for DUI offenders, including mandatory jail sentences and license suspensions
5. Assisting with provision of treatment for alcoholism
6. Maintaining the minimum legal age for drinking to remain at 21 years
7. Ensuring that there are mandatory alcohol breath-testing ignition interlock devices for anyone who has been convicted of driving while considered legally impaired

Every day in America, at least 27 people will die as a result of drunk driving?

KID: Kids in Distress

The Mission at KID is clear:

1. Prevent child abuse
2. Preserve the family
3. Treat children who have been abused and neglected

The program is specifically designed in order to provide children and their families with the proper tools, skills, services and education that are so importantly needed in order to maintain a safe, stable and healthy environment in which all can thrive. KID is the largest provider of foster homes in Broward and Palm Beach counties and also operates one of the only remaining emergency shelters for children from birth to 15 years of age.

KID began in 1979 in a small house used as an emergency shelter for the youngest victims of abuse and neglect. It has now grown to a 5-acre campus in Broward County with a satellite office in Palm Beach County.

ARC BROWARD

ARC is a non-profit organization that has been dedicated to helping thousands of people with disabilities to discover, build and celebrate their abilities.

The goal at ARC is to enrich the lives of children and adults who are affected by autism, Down syndrome and other intellectual disabilities, as well as those who face various life challenges. They provide a broad range of services from birth to 21 years of age. They also operate several day training, residential, mental health and employment programs for adults and seniors.

ARC Broward has been in existence since 1956 and makes meaningful differences that impact the community — and especially the people who depend upon this type of assistance and guidance for survival.

A Prom to Remember

A PROM to Remember has one Mission: to provide the ultimate prom experience for teens affected by cancer.

Unfortunately, due to their illness, many teenagers who are afflicted with cancer do not get to experience the excitement of attending their own prom. The goal of A Prom to Remember is to provide them with that experience and to far surpass it. It’s an event that gives them the chance and opportunity to have wonderful, lasting memories of such a special night.

By being treated like normal, healthy kids, these courageous children are transported by limousines, provided with tuxedos and evening gowns, beauty salon treatments and all extras that go along with a thrilling prom night. It definitely becomes a “night to remember.”

Cancer strikes an estimated 1 in 325 youngsters in America before they reach age 20. This means that there are millions of teens around the country suffering with this dreadful and debilitating disease.

BBBS BROWARD: Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward County

When something is big — it’s big. When something is little — it’s little. But, when you put the two together — it becomes Big meeting Little. Grown-up meeting child.

In this organization, the children who need help and assistance the most are matched with volunteers who want to be a mentor to the children who are growing up in poverty or who are coping with parental incarceration an opportunity to . They are the children from single parent homes, where there is not a second parent available to just “be there” for them.
So, how do you match a Big and a Little together? In very simple ways:

• Playing catch
• Reading books
• Sharing some ice cream
• Going to a museum
• Providing advice and inspiration
• And much more….

Strong, long lasting relationships are forged and each match is unique. The Bigs are all very special volunteers who dedicate their time and emotions to the Littles.

Sixty-seven percent of former Littles who were surveyed agreed that their Big played a very important role in their decision to attend college.
